SAN JOSE, CA, (October 8,
2002) – InterActual Technologies,
Inc. announced today a license agreement with STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) to
integrate InterActual’s proprietary DVD technology into ST’s DVD (Digital
Versatile Disc) products. This collaboration of technologies and expertise enables today’s
movie viewing experience to be combined with the web to offer consumers
additional content and ongoing value – all from the comfort of the living room.
“We are pleased to collaborate with ST to enable these additional interactive and online features that
in the past have only been targeted for the significant installed base of
personal computers,” said Todd Collart, President and CEO of InterActual. “Our
goal is to provide ST a solution that not only offers compatibility with future DVD forum standards, but also with new,
innovative features that are constantly emerging out of InterActual’s large and
growing installed base of content developers,” said Collart.
“InterActual’s software and
intellectual property provides ST with some of the core pieces required to
deliver next-generation enhanced DVD features such as enhanced menus, visual commentaries,
searchable video, and online features such as updated biographies and links
back to other online web sites,” said Bob Krysiak, General Manager of ST's DVD Division. “ST can expand upon our
proven expertise in DVD to offer system manufacturers a cost-effective
implementation of this compelling, connected entertainment experience,” said Krysiak.
Under the terms of the agreement, ST has been granted the non-exclusive right, including related intellectual property rights, to integrate InterActual Media Services with all of its digital video products. Any customer of ST’s DVD processors can activate the technology by entering into a system license agreement with InterActual.
