Enhanced DVD Solution Demonstrated at Digital Hollywood
Conference
· Capability available to OEMs through the LSI Logic ZiVA™-5 DVD system processor
Beverly Hills, Calif., Digital Hollywood, Sept. 25, 2002 – LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI) today announced it is
partnering with InterActual Technologies, Inc. to provide DVD manufacturers
with the silicon and software needed for the playback of additional
on-disc and online DVD features. Through a licensing agreement, LSI Logic will
be integrating InterActual’s DVD
software technology with its high-performance DVD system processor, ZiVA™-5.
InterActual’s technology, combined with an embedded browser, and the power of
ZiVA-5, makes it possible for interactive DVD-ROM features commonly found on
major DVD releases to be played on consumer DVD players, no longer restricting
playback to personal computers. LSI Logic is currently the only single-chip DVD
processor solution that incorporates this “Enhanced DVD” capability. A
demonstration of these advanced features can be viewed at InterActual’s suite
at the Digital Hollywood conference (www.digitalhollywood.com),
Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, Rodeo Room, September 24-25.
“InterActual’s technology takes advantage
of the advanced architecture and performance of the LSI Logic ZiVA-5 processor
to cost-effectively deliver new innovative DVD features that enhance the
consumer’s entertainment experience,” said Timothy Vehling, senior director of marketing, LSI Logic. “Until now,
enhanced DVD or additional DVD-ROM content has only been accessible on a
PC. By working with InterActual and LSILogic, DVD manufacturers
and content providers can quickly bring the enhanced DVD experience to any room
in the home.”
Powered by the LSI Logic 32-bit
Multimedia CPU with DSP extensions and a high-performance 32-bit 2D graphics
processor, ZiVA-5 brings multimedia features that are typically found in
personal computers into the living room.
Under the terms of the agreement, LSI Logic has been granted the non-exclusive right, including related intellectual property rights, to integrate InterActual Media Services with all of its digital video products. LSI Logic ZiVA-5 customers may activate the technology by entering into a system license agreement with InterActual, or via a pass-thru license agreement with LSI Logic.
“We
are pleased to collaborate with LSI Logic to enable these types of additional interactive and
online features commonly found on DVD movies and music DVDs,” said Todd
Collart, President and CEO of InterActual. “Our goal is to provide a solution
that not only offers compatibility with future DVD Forum
standards, but also with new, innovative features that are constantly emerging
out of InterActual’s large and growing installed base of trained content
developers,” said Collart.
LSI Logic currently partners with two different
InterActual-certified embedded browser manufacturers, ANT Limited (United
Kingdom) and Embedded Internet Systems (Santa Clara, CA and China). “Enhanced
DVD” is also supported by top Hollywood studios, as announced in a press
release distributed earlier today.
