New Line Commits to Integrate DVD with the Web
InterActual
Technologies, Inc. announced today it has signed a two-year software
distribution and licensing agreement with New Line Home Entertainment for the
inclusion of its industry-standard DVD software, InterActual Player, on all
Region 1 DVD releases. The agreement shall include upcoming blockbuster DVD
releases such as The Lord of the Rings: The
Fellowship of the Ring, Blade II, and Austin Powers In Goldmember.
“This
agreement demonstrates New Line’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the DVD
experience for over 20 million U.S. consumers with the capability to enjoy DVD
titles in their DVD-ROM enabled computers,” said Michael Mulvihill, Vice
President of Content Development for New Line Home Entertainment.
“With InterActual-enhanced titles such as Rush Hour, Rush Hour
2, Blade, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, and Blow,
New Line is constantly providing new and innovative ways for connecting
with and delivering value to DVD consumers,” said Mulvihill.
With over
10 million unique installations, InterActual software enhances DVD movie
viewing on DVD-ROM enabled computers by providing a seamless integration of web
browsing capabilities with the rich-media assets authored on DVD-Video discs.
New Line has leveraged this marriage of technologies by offering compelling,
value-added features such as Script-to-Screen where the consumer can view the
original screenplay while watching the movie. Most recently, New Line and
InterActual have partnered to create exclusive online content for New Line’s
unique brand of DVD, infinifilm.
These infinifilm DVDs, which include titles such as Thirteen
Days, Rush Hour 2 and the upcoming John Q., feature an
exclusive online community accessible only through the DVD-ROM.
“We are excited to collaborate with New Line and capitalize on the explosive growth and popularity of DVD viewing on computers,” said Todd Collart, President and CEO of InterActual. “By using InterActual’s software and services, New Line can offer consumers an exciting entertainment experience that uniquely differentiates DVD, while at the same time, establish a direct communication pipe with its consumers that has never before existed in the package media industry,” said Collart.
