YAHOO! MOVIES
TO UNVEIL DVD DESTINATION
Web’s Leading
Movie Site Offers More for DVD Enthusiasts
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October
1, 2002
Yahoo! Movies, the Web’s leading movie site, today introduced a comprehensive DVD destination with information on every DVD in current distribution, supported by daily news and reviews from DVDfile.com, release schedules, “Top Ten” lists, exclusive footage from upcoming DVDs, and direct links to purchase DVDs online at Yahoo! Shopping.
Launching with exclusive clips of the bonus material from Universal Studios Home Video’s The Scorpion King (debuting on DVD today), this new resource reflects the increasing importance of the Web to consumers in making entertainment decisions.
Designed as a one-stop resource for fans making decisions on which DVDs to buy or rent, this new area will be found at http://movies.yahoo.com/dvd. It builds on Yahoo!’s already significant role in the marketing of DVD titles and services online. According to Mediamark Research, 8.9 million Yahoo! users have rented DVDs (representing 44.3% reach of all DVD renters), while 6.8 million Yahoo! users have purchased DVDs (41.9% reach of all DVD buyers) in the last six months.
“Our users are heavy DVD buyers and renters, and so we have committed ourselves to building the most comprehensive collection of DVD-related information available on the Web,” said Doug Hirsch, senior director of Yahoo! Movies & TV. “Simultaneously, the studios and networks are looking for new ways to promote their DVDs online. Our DVD expansion completes the entire information cycle at Yahoo! Movies, from pre-production to theatrical release to home entertainment release.”
To enhance the information available on the site, Yahoo! has entered into a licensing agreement with InterActual Technologies, Inc., owners of DVDfile.com, a consumer-focused resource dedicated to providing the DVD enthusiast daily news, reviews
of both the DVD and DVD-ROM features, release news, best web-enabled DVDs, technical information and further online and offline resources.
“InterActual is thrilled to help Yahoo! Movies expand its offerings for home entertainment fans,” said Todd Collart, InterActual CEO. “InterActual is looking forward to working with Yahoo! to promote all the unique aspects of DVD as an ultimate interactive entertainment platform.”
